an alternative
I’m stuck on a design. I can’t see how the pieces should fit.
I write code and delete it. I take a walk. I make coffee. I come back. I try something. It doesn’t work. I think. I try again.
For a while, it seems like there’s no answer to be found. But if I keep at it — patiently, without giving up — a structure eventually surfaces. I try it, and like the last piece of a puzzle falling into place, what had been resisting me gives way.
This is the moment I find pleasant. It’s not quite the satisfaction of having solved something. It’s closer to having found the shape that was meant to fit — as if, while I was building, it had been there all along, waiting to be noticed.
Thinking slowly, and discovering something in the process — this matters to me.
The world, as it is now, doesn’t have much room for this kind of time.
Scale up, I’m told. Move fast. Get attention. Every time I put something out, numbers follow. Keep up with the trends, or get left behind — the message arrives from every direction.
In a place like that, the time to think slowly keeps getting shaved away.
So I want to build a place that feels right to me.
Not in a hurry. Not large. Not chasing attention. Not chasing numbers. Instead: thinking slowly. Building over time. Growing a little at a time. Engaging quietly.
Not something meant to replace what’s already there — just another place, standing alongside it.
Whether it works, I don’t know. But I think it’s worth trying.
